Planning a Holiday? Come to Scotland and be a Green Traveller...

Travelling has impacts on the destinations we visit, however these needn't be negative if we think about how we travel.

Here are some things to think about: 

1. How Do I Get There?

Consider local transport links. If you’re travelling to cities and large town then the train network in Scotland is good and there is also an excellent bus network. 2. Where to Stay?

Where you stay can have a big impact on your holiday’s footprint, so when looking for accommodation choose a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Ask businesses whether they’re using local produce, supporting local suppliers and minimising their impact on the environment.

3. What To Do?

There is no shortage of things to do in Scotland, but think about how your activities affect the local community and environment. Many companies follow codes of conduct or have responsible tourism policies – ask activity providers about this and look for membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, tourism associations and conservation groups.

4. Buy Local.

Think about where you eat and the souvenirs you buy on holiday. Support local businesses by buying locally made, locally sourced souvenirs. Scotland has a rich larder of natural ingredients and there plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can eat local food and traditional dishes.
